PURPOSE:To produce a processed food material in a state of entangled short fibers and an entirely new form, rich in nutritive value and having high utilization value, by binding rice bran and wheat bran as main raw materials with alginic acid. CONSTITUTION:Sodium alginate and water are added to particulate rice bran or wheat bran having a particle size preferably passing through at least a 40-mesh screen to give a uniform hydrous mixture in about 3-7wt% rice bran or wheat bran concentration and about 0.2-0.4wt% sodium alginate concentration. Calcium chloride in an amount sufficient to convert the sodium alginate into calcium alginate is added while flowing the above-mentioned mixture and the rice bran or wheat bran is coagulated and deposited in a fibrous form. The resultant rice bran or wheat bran is then separated, suitably dehydrated and washed with water. |
