The object of the invention is to create a device which, without the use of special templates, permits the grinding of different crowning at the top and bottom end face of the gear. According to the invention the object is achieved by the template being divided into template base 8 and guide 5. The template base 8 is firmly connected to the template carrier 3 and the guide is connected to the template carrier 3 in such a way as to be pivotable about the pivot M. The flank relief is set by varying the template inclination angle gamma as a result of pivoting of the guide 5. <IMAGE>
