A road barrier for vehicles, in which there are barrier elements which can, in a barrier position, be extended from the road surface, is to be improved with regard to the requirement for installation depth and in its overall structure. This is effected according to the invention by the locking elements (6, 7) being fastened on a pivot shaft (5) in a mounting (3, 4) designed for road installation, and thus being pivotable into the barrier position from a release position in which the barrier elements (6, 7) lie in the region of the road surface (Fig. 1). <IMAGE>
