A bumper for motor vehicles is described having a supporting part which is to be fastened to the motor vehicle and extends horizontally at least over the width of the vehicle and having a visible part which is connected to the supporting part. The supporting part (1) is composed of a central region (10) which is to be fastened to the vehicle (3) and has a U-shaped cross-section which is open in the direction of sight towards the vehicle and has approximately horizontal limbs (101, 102) and an upper edge region (12) and a lower edge region (11), the upper and lower edge regions being designed in each case as outline-forming continuations of the horizontal limbs (101, 102) of the U-shaped central region. The visible part (2) is connected to the supporting part (1) in such a way that, together with the central region (10) of the supporting part (1) it forms a box which is at least substantially closed and stabilises the bumper. <IMAGE>
