A measuring instrument comprises a shutter 40 interposed between an indicating needle 42 and aplate 36 having sets 37, 38 of indicia, the sets being upside down one with respect to the other, and the shutter 40 and plate 36 being movable between two relative positions, the shutter alternatively covering the set 37 and exposing the set 38 to view and vice versa. An electrical instrument in a control system for moving a valve from a closed position to an open position while the needle indicates an increase of current (0-10) is mounted behind a panel 44 bearing the legends closed and open to the left and right of a cut-out exposing the indicia plate 36 of the instrument mounted with the indicia 37 upright and the shutter 40 covering the upside down indicia 38. In a control system for moving a valve from closed to open position while the needle indicates a decrease of current (10-0) the instrument is mounted the other way up for reading the indicia 38 while the shutter is moved to cover the now upside down indicia 37. A spring clip on the top of the instrument casing holds it in postion while an index mark 39 signifies which type of valve the instrument is associated with. The shutter 40 carries graduation marks for association with both sets of indicia. In the embodiment of Fig. 7, a stationary shutter 59 has cut-outs, 51 to expose alternative sets of indicia 55, 56 on a plate 52 movable by a knob 58 in a guide 60 and graduation marks 57 serve either set of indicia. |
