PURPOSE:To regenerate active carbon by desorbing adsorbed material without causing deterioration of the active carbon by passing electric current through the active carbon which has been used for adsorption of an org. compd. while flowing inert gas through the active carbon. CONSTITUTION:When used active carbon is regenerated in the adsorption of an org. compd. in such as waste gas, etc., to the active carbon, 2-30V, pref. 2-10V voltage is impressed while passing inert gas such as N2, CO2, etc., through the used active carbon. Thus, the electric current functions as catalyst to cause desorption of the adsorbed material. Since the process is performed without applying heat to the active carbon, deterioration of the strength of the active carbon due to thermal fatigue is hardly recognized. Moreover, the operation cost is reduced remarkably if the adsorption-desorption cycle is performed continuously at low temp. |
