PURPOSE:To record sound signals in high quality by recording sound signals of two channels time compressed by a rotary magnetic head that records video signals delaying sound signals of one track from sound signals of another track. CONSTITUTION:Inputted sound signals of two channels CH1 and CH2 are input ted to a compressing circuit 2 through an A/D conversion circuit 1. Time base compression is made in the circuit 2 in unit of one field and inputted to a modu lation circuit 4 through an encoding circuit 3. Modulated signals CH1 are input ted to switching circuits 6, 6 to video signal Y signals, and signals CH2 are delayed by a delay circuit 5 by a specified time and then inputted to switching circuits 6, 6 to video signal C signals. Recording is made by a head 8 through a recording amplifier 7 on the part of a magnetic tape wound on a cylinder having built-in a circuit magnetic head 8 more than 180 degrees. Thus, high quality sound signals can be recorded, and at the same time, sound signals of two tracks can be erased using one rotary erasing head.
