The manufacture of particle board, but the other known dry-processes to produce boards from vegetable fibres, such as bagasse, are not excluded, provided, however, that formaldehyde is one constituent of the glue used. The invention is based on the use of modified starch together with the main glue. The starch modificate can be carbamate, ester or ether. These modificates react with the formaldehyde residues left in the board after the setting reaction of the main glue, whereby the emission of the residual formaldehyde is essentially reduced.
