The invention relates to a front body of a motor vehicle with a transverse wall which separates the engine space from the passenger compartment and on which, on the passenger compartment side, a foot lever mechanism as well as at least the lower part of a multipart steering shaft are fastened, the bottom-side end of which part is coupled via a universal joint to the pinion shaft of an engine-space-side steering gear. In order to simplify assembly and preferably also to make it suitable for automatic assembly, the transverse wall is provided with a convexity, which projects in the manner of a bay into the engine space, with an approximately horizontally running bottom part, in which a passage opening with an edge bent outwards in a flange-like manner for the passage of the pinion shaft is arranged, the steering gear, with a sleeve-like extension surrounding the pinion shaft in the manner of a collar with a spacing, being clamped in an approximately vertically running mounting movement - with an elastic sealing member being interposed - from the bottom against the edge of the passage opening. <IMAGE>
