A vehicle body for passenger cars consists of a substructure which comprises essentially the floor of the vehicle body, the side walls as far as the belt line, the front of the vehicle with wheel arches for the front wheels and the rear part with boot and wheel arches for the rear wheels, and of a superstructure which is formed by the roof of the vehicle body and the pillars of the vehicle body. Substructure and superstructure are constructed in the raw state of the vehicle body as separate parts which can be detachably connected to one another. Intermediate elements serve to connect the separate parts detachably during assembly, the said intermediate elements engaging on the one hand in complementary receptacles on the lower ends of the body pillars on the superstructure by means of bolts and on the other hand on the adjacent connecting points of the substructure. By means of the aforesaid measures, a substantial simplification in the assembly during manufacture of the vehicle body is achieved; however, the said measures also constitute simplifications in the event of repairs becoming necessary.
