It is known to wind a rope onto a rope drum by means of a cross-thread spindle. A disadvantage here is the thickness of the cross-thread spindle required to give an adequate supporting surface to the sliding block which can displace the rope-guide slide to and fro on the threaded spindle. Nevertheless, the lead-in angle between the rope-guide slide and the lead-in roller is relatively small and the distance between the rope drum and the lead-in roller is relatively large. The invention provides for a reversing gear mechanism 10 with two clutches 11, 12 between the rope drum 1 and a threaded spindle 22 with a power-transmission screw thread 23. The clutches 11, 12 are actuated alternately by scanning valves 28, 29 or limit switches and the direction of rotation of the threaded spindle 22 is thereby changed. In addition, the geared connection between the rope drum 1 and the threaded spindle 22 can be neutralised in the area of the drum rims 3, 4 for about one drum revolution by means of mechanical, hydraulic or electronic auxiliary means so that the rope-guide slide 24 pauses here for one drum revolution for the purpose of satisfactory winding. <IMAGE>
