PURPOSE:To enhance the propelling performance by making the ship with such a longitudinal section that the whole length or part of the bottom consists of a straight or curved line which has a specific upward inclination angle as approaching the stern, and thereby suppressing increase of the shape resistance owing to stern trim. CONSTITUTION:The bottom 5 between AP and FP is given an inclination angle theta3 which is below 5 deg., and the inclination angle generated by trim is represented by theta2, and theta2=theta3 signifies level bottom of ship. Making the bottom shape with approx. theta2=theta3 to the whole length or part of the ship in its longitudinal section will eliminate or minimize dangling of the bottom part or the portion having a cross-area greater than the central part, even though trim is made toward the stern. This reduces defoliation of water stream to be otherwise generated in this part, and this effect will decrease the shape resistance greatly.
