<p>A solid state electrochemical ceramic cell (10) adapted to alter the composition of gas exhaust streams containing noxious components passing therethrough comprising: a porous, high surface area body having a gas-receiving first end seal (12) portion, a gas egressing second end seal (13) portion and substantially gas impervious side walls (27) defining the length of the cell; a high surface area, porous solid electrolyte (20) forming the body of the cell interior (14); a gas communicating passageway (14) through the cell length extending from the first seal end (12) portion through the second seal end (13) portion and adapted to carry gas through the length of the cell (10); a first electronically conductive region (17) and a second electronically conductive region (20), said regions disposed in electronically conductive region (22), said regions disposed in electronically opposing segment of the cell; a first electrode connection member (21a) located in said first conductive region (17) and a second opposing electrode connection member (25) located within said second conductive region (22); said end seal portions (12, 13) adapted to be positioned in gas-tight engagement with a conduit which delivers and removes a gas stream to be treated to and from the cell.</p> |
