PURPOSE:To maintain the specified temp. during rolling by dividing a holding zone in the transverse direction of a furnace so that the independent temp. control is made possible, further providing side burners to an ejection zone and controlling the temp. of ingots in the longitudinal direction. CONSTITUTION:The ingots 3 which are transferred in the holding zone of a heater for steel products by walking beams consisting of stationary beams 22 and moving beams 23 are heated to a prescribed temp. by upper burners 4 of the holding zone and lower burners 5 of the holding zone. The above- mentioned holding zone is divided in the transverse direction of the furnace by the upper partition wall 8 and the lower partition wall 9. The temp. control corresponding to the front and rear ends of the above-mentioned ingots 3 to be engaged in the stage of rolling in the next stage is independently executed for each of the zones quadrisected in the longitudinal direction of the ingots 3. The upper burners 6a, 6b and lower burners 7a, 7b are provided as the side burners to the ejection zone to control the temp. distribution in the longitudinal direction of the ingots 3 and to compensate the temp. of the ingots 3 on the ejection side as necessary.
