<p>Discontinuous reduction of metal oxides to the metal is described in which separate fixed beds of metalliferous material treated simultaneously in at least one cooling reactor and at least two reduction reactors, and in which a reducing gas composed of CO and H2 is used for reducing the material, and which also may contain methane CO2 and steam for cooling the material. Specifically, the gaseous effluent from the cooling reactor is circulated in parallel in the metalliferous mass in the reduction reactors. The gas introduced into each redn. reactor is heated before entering the reactors, and the gas effluent from them is cooled to remove water. Part of this cooled gas is then reheated and recycled to the reduction reactors. The amt. of reducing gas required per ton of metal, is reduced.</p> |
