<p>A vehicle drive transmission comprises an automatic or semi-automatic multi-speed gearbox (301) having an input (306) and an output (307), and a wet clutch (302) which is operable to control the transmission of drive for at least one gear ratio of the gearbox, whereby torque is transmitted to the output (307) in a controlled manner so as to provide progressive take-up from rest. A clutch control device (C') is coupled with the wet clutch (302) via a pressure line (308) and is operable to supply a controlled fluid pressure medium to the clutch in order to control the extent of engagement of the clutch. An electrical control device (B') is connected to the clutch control device (C') so as to the control the fluid pressure supplied to the clutch, the electrical control device having means (A') responsive to input speed and arranged to provide progressive engagement of the clutch (302) as the input speed increases from idling speed and the vehicle moves away from rest.</p> |
