PURPOSE:To maintain a thin film of electrolytic liquid on the surfaces of catalytic particles stably for a long time so as to prevent reaction gas dissolution and moving resistance increase, by letting fluororesin of 20-30wt% with respect to the catalytic powder weight adhere to the powder before making catalytic layer. CONSTITUTION:In an electrode with a porous electrode base material on which a catalytic layer composed of uniformly mixed body to precious metal holding carbon catalytic powder and fluororesin is formed, fluororesin of 20-30wt% with respect to the weight of the precious metal holding carbon catalytic powder is made to adhere to the powder beforehand. When water repellent treatment is applied to the catalytic particles with the fluororesin, if the amount that should be treated is large, since the water repellency of the catalytic powder becomes large and the catalytic active sites are covered by the fluororesin, the value of electrochemical specific area of the catalyst in the electrode catalytic layer becomes small. On the other hand, in the case where the water repellent treatment of the catalytic particles is insufficient, since the water repellency of the catalytic powder is small, the electrolytic liquid easily infiltrates into catalytic particle lumps and the lumps are leaked, resulting in reaction gas dissolution and moving resistance increase. |
