PURPOSE:To sterilize a solution to be treated contg. H2S preventing a formation of H2S coming from a bacteria generated in said solution to be treated by using a quarternary ammonium salt as a fungicide in a seperation of the solution to be treated with is a deoxidation state by means of a reverse osmosis membrane. CONSTITUTION:The quarternary ammonium salt such as benzalkonium chloride, etc., is added to the solution to be treated continuously or intermittently in the separation of the solution to be treated which is in the deoxidation state and contains <=about 2ppm dissolved oxygen concentration, such as an underground brackish water, and the solution to be treated which removes a dissolved oxygen, etc., by means of the reverse osmosis apparatus. The quarternary ammonium salt is a nonoxidative, and as said salt does not produce a precipitate by reacting to H2S, said salt may add to the solution to be treated contg. H2S, and has the sterilization against the bacteria capable of producing H2S with a very small amount.
