1312929 Expanded graphite/carbon fibre body LE CARBONE-LORRAINE 26 May 1970 [27 Aug 1969] 25288/70 Heading C1A A carbon body that is resilient and/or resistant to high temperatures is prepared by intermingling carbon fibres and flakes of sheets of expanded graphite and compressing the resultant mixture without any binder material. The carbon fibres, previously carded into a wadding, may be mixed with expanded graphite, the mixture fluidized, and the resultant mass compressed at a pressure between 50 bars and 20,000 bars. If desired, two layers of such a mixture may be laminated by compression. Preferably the two or more such layers may be laminated between two layers of cardboard which are subsequently removed after the compressing step. If desired in such laminating process, the expanded graphite may be used in the form of a sheet, such as that resulting from the compression of under slight pressure of expanded carbon, and the carbon fibres may be in the form of a textile fabric or braid. Several alternate sheets of carbon fabric and expanded graphite may be employed.
|
