PURPOSE:To obtain the titled dense sintered body having high heat conductivity under mild conditions of high temp. and pressure by converting a molded body of pyrolytic boron nitride contg. a metallic nitride under conditions of specified temp. and pressure under which cubic boron nitride is thermodynamically stable. CONSTITUTION:A molded body of pyrolytic boron nitride contg. 0.1-5mol% metallic nitride produced by deposition by a vapor phase synthesis method is converted into cubic boron nitride under conditions of >=1,300 deg.C temp. and >=40,000atm. pressure under which cubic boron nitride is thermodynamically stable. Be3N2, Mg3N2, AlN, Si3N4, TiN or TaN may be used as the metallic nitride. Since the metallic nitride as a catalyst for conversion into cubic boron nitride is very uniformly dispersed in the molded body of the pyrolytic boron nitride as starting material, conversion into cubic boron nitride is very uniformly carried out in the whole molded body, so a sintered body of cubic boron nitride having a highly uniform structure is obtd. |
