PURPOSE:To evaporate and purity a solution containing chlorinated hydrocarbon with an evaporator, easily and economically without producing tarry substance and solid carbonaceous material, by evaporating at a specific temperature in the presence of activated carbon in the liquid phase of the evaporator. CONSTITUTION:A solution containing a chlorinated hydrocarbon, preferably a >=2C chlorinated hydrocarbon (especially preferably a chlorinated hydrocarbon mixture containing 1,2-dichloroethane and generated in a vinyl chloride monomer production process) is used as a raw material and evaporated and purified by using an evaporator containing a liquid phase in the evaporator and adding activated carbon to the liquid phase in the evaporator. The evaporation temperature is 80-300 deg.C, preferably 100-300 deg.C. The amount of active carbon to be added to the liquid phase of the evaporator is >=10ppm, preferably >=100ppm (by weight) based on the raw material solution. The evaporator is preferably a thermosyphon-type evaporator, etc.
