Wound capacitors (10) are manufactured by winding foils (2, 4) on a mandrel (1) which is heated sufficiently to set the initial turns (8) without fusing them, thus stabilizing the circular profile produced by the mandrel (1) so that the profile is retained when the mandrel (1) is removed from the wound capacitor (10).
