PURPOSE:To attain the detection of a load position with a single detecting means by detecting the arrival of a carriage at a load position against a loading device positioned at a position corresponding to the load position corresponding to the diameter of a disc type recording medium with the detecting means fixed at the loading device. CONSTITUTION:When discs 23 and 24 are inspected, by moving a loading device 8 and a carriage 1 with an air cylinder 26 after that a block moving screw 36 is tightened and a block 33 is abutted with a screw 35 and terminating the loading device 8 being abutted with the abutting part 33a of the block 33, the positioning of the carriage 1 is performed at the load position against the discs 23 and 24. When the execution of an inspection is completed and the carriage 1 is moved from an inner position to the load position, by detecting a plate 19 with an adjacent switch 38 and terminating the driving of a voice coil motor 3, the positioning of the carriage 1 is performed again at the load position against the discs 23 and 24.
