NEW MATERIAL:A 9,10-anthracenedialdehydobis(quinolin-2-yl) hydrazone derivative expressed by formula I (R<1> is H or methyl; R<2> is H, lower alkyl or lower alkoxy). EXAMPLE:9,10-Anthracenedialdehydo(quinolin-2-yl)hydrazone. USE:A staining agent for differential staining of human chromosome. PREPARATION:For example, a quinoline derivative expressed by formula TV is oxidized with hydrogen peroxide, etc., to give a quinoline N-oxide derivative, which is then subjected to the Reissert reaction to afford a carbostyril derivative expressed by formula VI. The resultant carbostyril derivative expressed by formula VI if then reacted with phosphorus oxuchloride to give a 2- chloroquinoline derivative exprressed by formula VII, which is then reacted with hydrazine hydrate to afford a 2-hydrazinoquinoline derivative expressed by formula II. The resultant derivative expressed by formula II is then reacted with 9,10-anthracenedialdehyde expressed by formula III to give the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
