A steam generator has a compressor for pressurising the combustion chamber of the steam generator, there being a gas turbine for driving the compressor and driven by combustion gases from the combustion chamber, the steam generator and the gas turbine being so designed that the output of the gas turbine is insufficient for driving the compressor, there being also a steam turbine for driving the compressor and arranged to be driven by steam from the steam generator. The plant shown comprises a steam generator 6, the combustion chamber of which is pressurised by a compressor 40 which is driven in part by gas turbine 41 supplied with combustion gases from the combustion chamber through line 43, and in part by steam turbine 16 supplied with steam through line 14 under control of valve 15. Steam from steam generator 6 passes through line 8 to HP turbine 9 then in part through line 14 to the steam turbine 16, and in part through reheater 12 to LP turbine 13, steam discharging from turbine 13 to condenser 20, the condensate being passed by pump 21, pre-heater 22, valve 24 and pressure boosting pump 26 to de-aerator 2 and feed water tank 1. Feed water passes from the tank 1 by way of feed pump 4 and line 5 to the steam generator 6. Steam may pass from the feed tank 1 through line 27 to the condehsate heater 22 and through safety valve 29 to condenser 20. Steam discharging from the auxiliary steam turbine 16 passes through line 17 to the feed water tank 1; water may be injected into the line 17 as indicated at 10. An auxiliary steam generator 32 is provided, steam from which may pass through line 30 to drive the auxiliary turbine 16 at starting-up of the plant. Steam from the steam generator 32 may be circulated through line 35 under control of valve 36 to the feed water tank 1 at starting. Supply of steam to the auxiliary turbine 16 is controlled by valves 15 and 31 which are controlled by unit 52 in dependence on combustion chamber pressure sensed by device 51 and pre-set pressure set at device 50.</p> |
