1344642 Meta-anilide ureas STAUFFER CHEMICAL CO 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 21227/71 Addition to 1235890 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds having the general formula in which Y is oxygen and X is oxygen or sulphur; R 1 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl group R 2 and R 3 , which may be the same or different, each represents hydrogen, alkyl, lower alkoxy, haloalkyl, lower alkenyl, cycloalkyl having 3 to 6 carbons, carbalkoxyalkyl, furfuryl, naphthyl, phenyl or phenyl substituted by halogen, nitro or lower alkoxy; R 4 is hydrogen or lower alkyl, R 5 represents hydrogen, alkyl, ethylcycloalkyl, lower alkenyl, halogenated lower alkyl, cycloalkyl, pinonoyl, 2,4-dichlorophenoxymethylene, benzyl, phenyl, or phenyl substituted by halogen, nitro, lower alkyl, lower alkoxy or trihalomethyl; Z represents halogen, lower alkyl, nitro, amino or trifluoromethyl and m is an integer from 0 to 4, provided that when R 1 , R 2 , R 3 and R 4 are hydrogen, X and Y are both oxygen and m is 0, then R 5 is other than methyl or ethyl. The compounds may be prepared either by reacting an m-amino substituted anilide with an isocyanate, isothiocyanate or carbamoyl chloride, or by reacting an m-amino urea with an acyl halide or an acid anhydride. The compounds of the invention may be used as herbicides which may be mixed with an inert carrier and used in the form of a spray, dust or drench. |
