PURPOSE:The titled composition having improved application properties, handleability, etc., obtained by blending specific amounts of a specific solvent, a coloring substance soluble or dispersible into the solvent, a gel forming substance and an adherent substance soluble or dispersible into the solvent and making the blend into a solid or semisolid state. CONSTITUTION:A shape retaining hair coloring agent composition which does not stain clothes, has improved application properties, shelf stability, simple handleability and a certain degree of water resistance, readily washed away in hair washing and consists of (a) 50-90wt%, preferably 70-85wt% water and/or organic solvent, (b) 0.5-20wt%, preferably 2-15wt% gel forming substance such as an alkali metallic salt of fatty acid, a condensate of benzaldehyde and a polyhydric alcohol, etc., (C) 0.1-20wt%, preferably 0.5-12wt% coloring substance soluble or dispersible into the solvent and (d) 3-30wt%, preferably 5-15wt% adherent substance soluble or dispersible into the solvent.
