<p>Preparation of R1R2R3 CN=NCR' R2R3 in which R' = 1-6 alkyl= R2=3-6C cycloalkyl or R'; R3=CN, COOR' or COOM where M is Na or K; R' + R2 contain is not 4C or together form C4-12 cycloalkyl. Prepn. is by treating an amine R', R2, R3 CNH2 with a source of positive chlorine, esp. hypochlorite of Na, K or Ca, in a solvent consisting of 0.55 wt. % water and 45-100% of a water-miscible organic cpd. having b.p. between 0 deg.C and 300 deg.C, e.g. methanol at a temp. between the freezing pt. of the reactants and 100 deg.C; and separating the product. Initiators for the polymerisation of e.g. ethylene, vinyl acetate, and methyl methacrylate.</p> |
