PRODUCTION OF ORIENTATIVE YTTRIUM ORTHOFERRITE POWDER

PURPOSE:To obtain platy orientative YFeO2 powder grown in the specified crystal face (110) by autoclaving mixed suspension which is obtained by adding an high-concn. alkali aq. soln. to an aq. soln. contg. sulfate ion, Y<3+> and Fe<2>. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. contg. nitrate ion, Y<3+> and Fe<2+> is obtained by dissolving yttrium nitrate (e.g. Y(NO3)3) and ferrous salt (e.g. FeCl2) in water. Then mixed suspension obtained by adding a high-concn. alkali (e.g. NaOH) aq. soln. to this aq. soln. is autoclaved at >=250 deg.C. Thereby YFeO3 powder which has high purity and is large in shape anisotropy and uniform in grain size is obtained.
