NEW MATERIAL:A (meth)acrylic acid ester of a compound produced by reacting a polyhydric alcohol with an addition reaction product of hydroxypivalic acid of formula (average value of n is 1-5) with epsilon-caprolactone. EXAMPLE:A reaction product of tricyclodecanedimethylol with an addition reaction product of 2-hydroxypivalic acid and epsilon-caprolactone. USE:A diluent for ultraviolet-curing or electron ray-curing printing ink and paint. It is hydrophobic and has excellent curability. PREPARATION:The objective (meth)acrylic acid ester can be produced by reacting 2-hydroxypivalic acid with epsilon-caprolactone in the presence of a catalyst and reacting the resultant compound of formula with a polyhydric alcohol having >=2 hydroxyl groups.
