The device comprises: - a material (3) on the one hand capable of reacting chemically with oxygen in the water present in the surrounding atmosphere to form an oxide at its surface (30) and, on the other hand, capable of fixing the hydrogen from the water molecules thus decomposed; - resistive means (2) making it possible, on command, to heat the oxide layer in order to allow the chemical reaction of oxide formation to continue. The device is attached to the inner wall (7), for example of a housing for an electronic component by an adhesive layer (8) and is connected electrically by wires (51).
