PURPOSE:To conduct discharge recovery processing positively by providing a limiting means limiting the quantity of ink in its midway of an ink supply path, generating negative pressure between the means and a discharge opening during the limiting of the quantity of ink and introducing a gas from the discharge opening. CONSTITUTION:A head 1 is capped by a joining section 3 at a home position, solenoid valves 8, 40 are closed, a lever 9 is ON-moved and a vent valve 5A is closed, a pump 6 is driven and ink is sucked from a discharge opening 2, and negative pressure is generated in the head 1, ink supply tubes 14, 17 and a sub-tank 12. When the solenoid valve 8 is opened to atmosphere, air is introduced into the head 1 and the tube 17 by negative pressure. When the solenoid valve 40 is opened and the lever 9 is ON-moved again, introduced air is sucked quickly through the suction operation of the pump 6, and ink is sucked from the discharge opening 2 at a sufficient flow rate together with air, thus positively removing foreign matters such as bubbles remaining in a filter 30, etc. |
