PURPOSE:To increase the speed of recording by dividing the constitution of CGs (character generator) for each character in response to the number of recording passes and storing the divided constitution into the same address in a ROM for the CGs. CONSTITUTION:A memory storage section for a ROM 16 for CGs is composed of mutually superposed banks (memory surfaces) B1, B2 in number corresponding to the number of recording passes, and each CG element E1, E2 of the same character (such as A) are stored in superposed CG storage sections in respective bank so that the CG storage sections can be read by the same address. On recording, the bank corresponding to the recording pass is assigned through a signal line 18 from a CPU 11, the CG element E1 in the predetermined address of the bank B1 is read at a first pass, the CG element E2 of the bank B2 is read by the same address at a second pass, and both elements E1, E2 are recorded by a prescribed pattern. Accordingly, elements can be recorded without changing reading addresses for CGs until the whole passes are completed, thus increasing the speed of recording. |
