PURPOSE:To permit the thermal expansion of a heat transfer tube by a simple means and facilitate the dismantling, washing and inspection of the heat transfer tube by a method wherein one end of the heat transfer tube is secured and supported to a tube plate while the other end of the heat transfer tube is attached and supported detachably to the other tube plate through an O-ring. CONSTITUTION:The ends of heat transfer tubes 21a-21d are supported by double tube plates 33, 34 and inner part of the hole 43 of the inside tube plate 33 is beveled or tapered so as to facilitate the insertion of the heat transfer tube 21a while the outside hole is beveled so as to form a groove 46 having a triangular section. An O-ring 47 is fitted into the triangular groove 46 so as to seal between the heat transfer tube 21a and the tube plate 33. According to this method, one end of the heat transfer tube 21a is sealed by the O-ring and movable freely into the axial direction of the tube 21 even when a difference of temperatures or thermal expansions is existing between the heat transfer tube 21a and a cylinder 23, therefore, problems will never be generated by the generation of a stress or the like. Further, one end of the heat transfer tube 21a may be removed from the tube plates 33, 34 easily.
