PRODUCTION OF HALOGENATED BENZENE DERIVATIVE USING IMPROVED ZEOLITE CATALYST

PURPOSE:To selectively produce a p-substituted halogenated benzene derivative, by using an L-type zeolite treated with an alkali solution having a specific pH and carrying out a liquid-phase halogenation of benzene and/or a benzene derivative. CONSTITUTION:A halogenated benzene derivative useful as an intermediate for pharmaceuticals and agricultural chemicals is produced by liquid-phase halogenation reaction of benzene and/or a benzene derivative in the presence of a catalyst produced by treating an L-type zeolite with an alkali solution of >=11pH, preferably >=13pH. A p-substituted halogenated benzene derivative having high industrial value can be produced economically in high yield on an industrial scale compared with conventional production process.
