PURPOSE:To increase a recording speed, by a method wherein; when the number of recording in any of sections in a ribbon control table reaches a preset value, the ribbon control table is made to shift so that the section shifts to the tip end margin (-m). CONSTITUTION:RAM in a control circuit sets a ribbon buffer RB consisting of a plurality of sections (-m)-0-(n) in a multi-ink ribbon 13, i.e. between left and right margins RLM, RRM, to form a ribbon control table. The RAM conducts recording while converting a mode to the predetermined mode among a two-way mode wherein memories MBR, MBL are both 0, a forward mode wherein the MBR is 1, and a return mode wherein the MBL is 1, according to a recording condition. In addition, the number of recording in the each section is stored and when the number of recording in any of the sections in the ribbon control table reaches a preset value, the ribbon control table is made to shift so that the section shifts to the top end margin (-m). In this manner, a recording speed is increased.
