<p>A TFT/LC display matrix wherein the TFT switching array performs required raster and image generating functions wherein all orthogonal switching line crossovers on the substrate carrying the TFT (12) are eliminated. All of the TFT drains (sources) (14,16) in the array are electrically common and connected by a common line on the substrate (10) and off-glass contact to a suitable potential. The gates (22) are connected in conventional fashion to achieve row selection by suitable lines along a first orthogonal axis. The column selection is done by segmenting the counterelectrodes (18') on the top glass plate (20) into parallel lines orthogonal to the gate (row selection) lines which are registered with the pel electrodes (63) on the substrate, and applying suitable potentials. Switching is done by coupling via the LC element to the sources (drains). The electrical operation of the device is similar to a conventional array.</p> |
