PURPOSE:To prevent short-circuiting by using a positive electrode grid made of lead alloy which does not contain antimony and providing a positive plate, which is not filled with paste, in divisions of the upper row of this grid. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode grid made of lead alloy such as Pb-Ca-Sn alloy which does not contain antimony is used as an assigned positive electrode grid. A positive electrode plate which is not filled with paste is provided in a division 5 in the first row between a major rib 2 at the upper edge and a minor lateral rib in the first row. In this configuration, the upper part of the positive electrode grid is not brought in contact with the paste and therefore, not easily corroded due to charge and discharge and not subjected to the stress of expansion and contraction of the paste due to charge and discharge. Consequently, the upper part of the positive electrode grid hardly expands. Thus, a paste type lead acid battery free from short-circuiting due to the prevention of positive electrode grid expansion can be obtained without increasing the bulk of the battery. |
