PURPOSE:To obtain a 11beta-hydroxysteroid compound in high yield, either by culturing a specific microbial strain belonging to Culvularia genus in a medium containing a specific acyloxysteroid compound or by aerobically treating the compound with an oxidase produced by the microbial strain. CONSTITUTION:The objective 11beta-hydroxysteroid compound of formula II can be produced in high rate of reaction and high productivity either by culturing a microbial strain belonging to Culvularia genus and capable of hydroxylating a 11beta-site hydrogen atom in a medium containing an acyloxysteroid compound of formula I (X and Y are H or acyl; at least one of X and Y is acyl) or by aerobically treating the compound with an oxidase produced by the microbial strain. |
