PURPOSE:To enhance the quality of a product by uniformly applying a chemical solution to a base material, by using a die in the coating of the chemical solution and arranging a support plate performing smoothing work between the die and a metering bar. CONSTITUTION:In coating a base material 1 with a chemical solution 2, the chemical solution 2 supplied from a slit-like nozzle 5a is applied to the under surface of the base material 1. The base material after coating is subsequently transferred on a support plate 6 and, during this time, the minute disturbance of the chemical solution 2 is corrected and, when the support surface 6a of the support plate 6 has diamond shaped crossing grooves, bubbles mixed in the chemical solution 2 are discharged from the grooves to the outside of the system. Thereafter, the chemical solution 2 is smoothed by the metering bar 7 in the downstream side of the support plate 6 and the excessive solution is removed.
