Asbestos-free cement compsn. contains 1-15, pref. 3-10 wt.% short fibres, 0.1-3 pref 1-3%, latex, 0.1-7. pref. 1-5% cellulose, 0.1-5 pref. 1-5% long fibres and 70-98.7 pref. 77-94% cement. The compsn. contains water or is designed for water addition. The short fibres may be inorganic glassy material or thermoplastic fibre or asbestos. The fibres are pref. less than 3 mm. The latex is acrylic or styrene-butadiene type. The cellulose is melted to 60-80 deg. SR. The long fibre may be alkali resistant glass or mineral fibre or polymeric fibres such as polypropylene, polyester etc. or a material fibre or a blend of fibre. Staple length is 3-30 mm. The compsn. may also contain inert fillers, accelerators and hydrophobic agents. The compsn. is useful for prodn. of sheets, slabs, pipes etc. with good strength, impact strength, cement retention etc. with the presence of little or no asbestos.
