PURPOSE:To form an inside surface coating having excellent heat insulating, refractory and water resistant characteristics by attaching a swiveling feed pipe to an aperture at one end of an exhaust apparatus for an exhaust gas, spraying an inorg. binder, refractory heat insulating material, refractory material, etc. to form a refractory heat insulating layer, refractory layer and protective layer and heating these layers at a high temp. CONSTITUTION:An aq. soln. of 20-60wt% inorg. binder such as sodium silicate is blown from the swiveling feed pipe which swivels to feed a powdery or mist-like material to the aperture at one end of the exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine to form a binder layer on the inside surface of the manifold by the centrifugal force of swiveling and immediately thereafter, a powdery refractory heat insulating material such as pearlite is fed and stuck to the inside surface. The stuck material is solidified by heating. The refractory layer consisting of the inorg. binder and refractory material powder such as zirconia and the protective layer consisting of <=20mum fine refractory material are similarly formed thereon and are heated at 800-1,000 deg.C, by which the inside surface coating having the excellent heat insulating, refractory and water resistant characteristics is formed.
