PURPOSE:To shorten a seek action time and to enlarge a media using range by detecting the edge of data part on a media at the position of a recording/ reproducing head. CONSTITUTION:The data are written in an inner detecting part 10 and an outer detecting part 11 at both sides of a data part 9 on information recording/ reproducing media 8. A read head 1 enters a detecting part 10 or 11, and then, the output of a filter 5 is counted 6. At such a time, by the number of counting the output of the filter 5 to appear at one period of a clear signal on a signal line 13, a counter 6 is set to overflow. Thus, the edge is detected at the time of overflowing the counter 6. The overflowing of the mode is detected by an edge detecting signal on a signal line 7. On the other hand, when the head 1 enters the data part 9, the output of the filter 5 is eliminated.
