PURPOSE:To easily obtain an output picture not protruded out of the frame by detecting the entire size of two originals placed at the same time on an original platen face in advance before the read of original and selecting an optimum variable power ratio in matching with the paper size. CONSTITUTION:A CCD is driven to check the peripheral coordinates of originals A, B and to obtain coordinate data where VtA is the position of the tip from the origin O in the main scanning direction, VbA is the tail end position similarly, HtA is the tip position in the subscanning direction and HbA is the position at the tail end similarly. The coordinate data of VtB, VbB, HtB, and HbB are obtained similarly. Based on the coordinate information, the original position shift between the two originals, data of Vg in X direction and Hg in Y direction being the substantial size of the entire two originals A, B are obtained by calculation to decide the variable power ratio alpha by which the two originals are allocated.
