PURPOSE:To form an inside surface coating layer having excellent heat insulating and refractory characteristics by connecting a swiveling feed pipe and suction pipe for raw materials to apertures at both ends of an exhaust apparatus for an exhaust gas, sucking an inorg. binder, refractory heat insulating material, refractory material, etc. therethrough to form a refractory heat insulating layer and refractory layer and solidifying these layers by heating then heating the layers to a high temp. CONSTITUTION:The swiveling feed pipe and suction pipe for the raw materials are connected to the apertures at both ends of the exhaust manifold of an internal combustion engine. A mist-like aq. soln. of 20-60wt% inorg. binder such as sodium silicate is sucked through the suction pipe to form a binder layer on the inside surface. Powder of the refractory heat insulating material such as pearlite is sucked immediately thereafter and is stuck onto the binder layer. The stuck powder is solidified by heating to about 300 deg.C. The refractory layer consisting of the inorg. binder and refractory material powder such as zirconia is formed thereon by the similar method and is solidified by heating to about 300 deg.C; thereafter, the entire part is heated to 800-1,000 deg.C. The inside surface coating layer having the excellent heat insulating and refractory characteristics is thus formed.
