PURPOSE:To decrease the distortion, output fluctuation and peak shift of reproduction waveforms by using an amorphous Co-Ta-Zr alloy contg. Co, Ta and Zr in a specific compsn. range as part of magnetic poles. CONSTITUTION:The amorphous Co-Ta-Zr alloy in which Co is within the compsn. range of 85-94at%, Ta 0.5-7at% and Zr 3-8at% is used at least as part of the magnetic poles. A thin film magnetic head which is free from the distortion of the reproduction waveforms and the fluctuation of the reproduction output is thus obtd. at a high yield. The above-mentioned compsn. range is made preferably 86-94at% Co, 1-7at% Ta, and 3-6at% Zr, more preferably 89-94at% Co, 2-6at% Ta and 3-5at% Zr.
