PURPOSE:To facilitate making a panel area large-sized by forming a color band filter layer due to a rear light source and an optical shutter layer independently to form active elements on a panel substrate, matrix driving scanning lines, etc., without making them minute. CONSTITUTION:A white light source is provided on a panel rear face 5, and the first liquid crystal cell layer 1 and the second liquid crystal cell layer 4 which is provided with three-primary color bands 3 consisting of red R, green G, and blue B correspondingly to scanning lines 2 of the first liquid crystal cell layer 1 and is nearer to the panel rear face 5 are laminated as one body. An electric field effect type cell layer of TN (Twisted Nematic) type or the like which orients and drives a liquid crystal is formed between light- transmissive substrates 10 and 11 of the first liquid crystal cell layer 1. A similar electric field effect type cell layer of TN type is formed between light- transmissive substrates 10 and 12 of the second liquid crystal cell layer 4. |
