PURPOSE:To economize the labor for the discharging work for the paper sheets left on a transport passage by installing a subtransport passage which leads to the taking-out side of a taking-out part, branched from the front part of a processing part. CONSTITUTION:When the apparatus is restarted after removing a jammed mail P, the first transport passage 2 starts drive, in the taking-out part 1 in the state where taking-out of the mail P is supsended, and a gate 12 installed at the A point is deenergized, and turned clockwise. Therefore, all the mails P on the first transport passage 2 starting from the taking-out part 1 to the A point are transported to the second transport passage 11, and temporarily collected into a collection part 13. The taking-out part 1 is driven after the lapse of a certain time up to the time when the mails P on the first transport passage 2 are exhausted, and the gate 12 is energized to turn counterclockwise, and the ordinary processing state is restored. While, the mails P on the first transport passage 2 succeeding to the A point are collected into a discharge and collection part 8 after restart.
