PURPOSE:To perform printing a document having plural sorts of characters in mixture in such a manner that lateral and vertical prints are convertible similarly to a normal print by providing line decoration storing means, line information storing means, means for updating a line feed position, and means for developing a character from a line position, and printing the document having different print starting bit with the line as a unit in such a manner that lateral and vertical prints are convertible. CONSTITUTION:Means LIB for storing line decoration information including a character size, a pitch between characters and left side margin of print with the line of an input document as a unit, line information storing means LIB, means PL for updating line feed position of line information, and means for developing a character from the line position having the minimum value of the line feed positions of the line information are provided. A document having different character sizes with lines as a unit is so printed on paper inserted vertically to a paper feeder of a printing mechanism that lateral and vertical prints are convertible such that the paper is inserted laterally. Thus, in a personal work processor, a paper feeder having a narrow width is effectively utilized to print a document having plural sorts of characters in mixture in such a manner that lateral and vertical prints are convertible similar to a normal print with lines as unit, thereby largely improving printing function.
