PURPOSE:To ensure control of transmission, by a method wherein a clutch spring, provided at each gear, and a clutch spring releasing means are provided, and a shape memory alloy is engaged with a releasing means. CONSTITUTION:Clutch springs 18 and 19 are attached to two sets of gears 4, 5, 9, and 10 for a high speed, and sleeves 21 and 22 are engaged so as to release the working of the clutch springs 18 and 19. Coil spring form shape memory alloy members 26 and 27 are wound around a control shaft 23, and claw members 24 and 25 are disengaged from ratchet teeth 21a and 22a against the spring force of coil springs 28 and 29 along with an increase in temperature. This enables formation of a variable speed device only with mechanical elements, and enasures control of transmission.
